KOFI must go!

The link in the title is to a web site where you can add your name to a petition in a letter to Congressional leaders urging them to withhold U.S. payments to the United Nations until there's a new Secretary General. That's a great start, but we'd like to have more than 4,000 when we submit it to Congress. If we're going to achieve our goal, we need your help.

In my opinion, we should leave the UN altogether. The organization does nothing to advance our country's interests, and very little to advance the cause of peace and human rights worldwide - and that only when we bring the big stick.

I did sign the petition, however. It's a step in the right direction.

I am in total concurance with the "get out of the UN" statement, but as you said....baby steps.....

Why do you want Kofi Annan to quit?

When a large corporation goes into the red or makes bad business decisions they blame the CEO. When an American does something bad overseas they blame the President. When the UN is as corrupt as it is now I blame the man at the top. Under my first two examples the men could have been ignorant of the wrong doings, but when its your own family screwing up and stealing from everyone, well, there must be a shake up to bring credibility back to the UN. Not that I care about them, they are ineffective, inefficent and incapable of doing anything without a diverse group of countries with diametrically opposed ideologies concur, therefor not only should Kofi go for the good of the UN (again who cares) but we should pull out until they prove they will back up their resolutions and not just make empty threats.

Hello Mr. Nixon. I agree. The world is shouting that GWB is only worried about retaining "power". Kofi is blatantly one one guilty about losing his paycheck and power. This will make you laugh. I got it from scrappleface:

"Mr. Annan brushed off suggestions that he should step down, and insisted he has fulfilled his role of fostering global peace by holding meetings, eating in fine restaurants and speaking very softly in a charming accent."

That said, I've added you to by list of "dude blogs" as I will be returning!

Hello, RN, nice blog you got here.

Now, for my suggestion, as far as the Securtiy Council should go; scrap the veto power rule. Get about 3/5 the SC, and if there is a disagreement, go to the General Assembly and get 1/2 of the GA to agree. That way, we won't have to worry about a country that has a veto power to use it for their own gain (like France in the Oil-for-Food).

How does that sound?

3/5 of the SC? Russia, France, China. Ugh.

By the way, congrats to your Steelers, RN! You may want to have a chat with them about choosing the most difficult route to victory...

Rants & Raves is way too far down for me to scroll to it...

Thank you QFU for your kind words.

Thank you Commadore for your kind words, and for your reform ideas of the SC. They looked good until Hammertime brought up an obvious and evil coalition that could conspire against us.

Hammertime, my Steelers do love a challenge, and I do appreciate the fact you actually read the rules about Rants and Raves.

The only thing I don't like about the "kofi must go" statement is...who's going to take his place, Bill Clinton? No, we have to get the hell out of that organization before Billy and the Clintonistas get involved....

Your right Cao, but I would rather take a chance on the devil I don't know in this case, rather than the devil we know is corrupt and a poor manager to boot.
